If you are traveling by air the nearest major airports are San Francisco International Airport (SFO) which is approximately 100 miles from Carmel or San Jose International (SJC) which is about 80 miles away. There is also a small airport in Monterey, Monterey Regional Airport (MRY), which is only 10 miles from Carmel but has limited flight options.

From the airports, rental cars are probably the most convenient way of getting to Carmel. If you do not wish to drive you can check out the Monterey Airbus shuttle service between SFO, SJC, and the Monterey Peninsula
